Awaken to Nature
Experience the rugged beauty of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in this fine art print. With acute steepness and dramatic peaks, these mountains rise nearly a mile above the arid valley floor. Featuring a serene riverbed and cottonwood trees, this print captures the stunning contrast between nature and civilization.
In the words of the artist:
The Sangre de Cristo Mountains rise abruptly from the eastern side of the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado. What strikes the viewer immediately is the acute steepness of these dramatic peaks whose summits stand nearly a mile in elevation above the arid valley floor.
I made the initial sketch for this painting looking eastward, down valley, just below the settlement of Bonanza, Colorado. Here the flat plane of a small riverbed and its light-colored cottonwood trees stand in stark contrast against the distant blue mountains.
